Carer Health Questionnaire

Carer Health Questionnaire

Locus of control is a measure of the extent to which an individual perceives the events in their life to be determined by their own actions. A strong internal locus of control indicates that an individual perceives the events in their life to be determined by their own actions. For example, a student with a strong internal locus of control will, upon receiving a high grade, reflect that their diligence and attentiveness has paid off. On the other hand, a student with a strong external locus of control might consider their high grade an indication that their teacher is a 'soft marker'. A strong internal health locus of control, especially in combination with a high value on good health, is correlated with health-seeking behaviour and health outcomes. Sudden, negative events have physical, emotional, and financial impacts. They can also cause injury to perceived locus of control. Injury to locus of control can have profound and enduring consequences for these 3 domains.

Instructions

Each of the 18 items below is a belief statement about your medical health with which you may agree or disagree. Beside each statement is a scale which ranges from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (6). For each item please circle the number that represents the extent to which you agree or disagree with that statement. The more you agree with a statement, the higher will be the number you circle. The more you disagree with a statement, the lower will be the number you circle. Please make sure that you answer every item and that you circle only one number per item. This is a measure of your personal beliefs. There are no right or wrong answers.
