Hi, I'm Ahmed. I am almost four years old and I've been on a long journey. I'm from Egypt and I have autism. I love my mummy, daddy and my yournger sister. I like swimming and playing and I go to child care.

Ahmed's Story
Ahmed was born in Egypt and diagnosed with Autism at 2 years old. He began to show significant developmental delays by the time he was 1 year old and by that time we were also expecting our second child. When we realised that Ahmed would need special care every day, his mother discontinued her profession in dentistry.
Ahmed's mother had to drive up to 3 hours per day to access suitable therapies. In our country there is not a good understanding of the early intervention required for Autism and inclusion in mainstream child care centres or schools is not available. Ahmed and our family faced a future of being excluded from our community.
To provide better opportunities for Ahmed and our family, we made the difficult decision to leave our country, family and friends to emigrate to Australia as permanent residents. After three years we will apply for citizenship.
Ahmed's Needs
To help Ahmed get ready for school, he will need to attend up to 4 therapy sessions per week.
Occupational Therapy will address his sensory issues. Ahmed is now able to say a few words but still needs a lot of assistance. Speech Therapy is vital to ensure that he will be included in a mainstream school. Applied Behaviour Analysis is a specialised Autism intervention. This will teach Ahmed social and playing skills and independence.
