Description

My name is Matilda but everyone just calls me Tilly! When I was born my mum and I had lots of complications. I popped into the world and had trouble breathing so I had to be resuscitated and spent a long time in intensive care. As a result of my tough entry into the world I have been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. I have decided to share my journey with the world and hope you can learn lots from me. I invite you to watch me grow and see me learn how to use my body the best I can regardless of my disability.

Soon after Tilly was born she was immediately transferred to the Mater Mothers hospital in Brisbane and it was there the doctors made the grim discovery: Tilly had experienced a hypoxic (lack of oxygen) episode late in the labour process. Matilda’s Cerebral Palsy means the simple things that we take for granted are a struggle for Tilly, like sitting, crawling, walking, talking and using her hands. However with early intervention and specialised care, outcomes for the future can be dramatically improved. Matilda has not had the best of starts but she has shown everyone her strong character and that she is up for the challenge. It wasn't until later did we find out what her name means, we feel it's perfect for her: Matilda, "Strength for battle".

Matilda has a very busy schedule attending her weekly appointments including, Physio therapy, Speech therapy, Chiropractor, Acupuncture and attending Xavier Conductive Education Program in Brisbane. She attends the school two days a week and loves doing therapy with her little friends. We want all of our children to have access to everything the world has to offer. Right now Tilly does not. However, in the future, things will change for her with hard work, persistence, lots of therapy and the support from family and friends.

Our vision for Tilly is that she gets a chance to achieve her full potential in life, we would love to see her mobile and eventually have her own independence. Currently she gets around the home in her cool little walker, finding herself in all sorts of mischief. We are now looking into purchasing her a wheelchair and a communication device.

All the funds we raise will be used to continue Tilly's ongoing treatment, therapies and to purchase new equipment. So please help Tilly achieve these goals by becoming part of “Team Tilly”. Any support you are able to offer is very much appreciated as it all counts.
