Description
Hello my name is Lochlain Harrod. I am 9 years old and I was born with Cerebral Palsy. I live in Ipswich with my family; my mum Jill, my dad Jason, my big sister Laurynn, my Nan Pat and our dog Patch.
The Developing Foundation helps my family to raise money for things that I need. We do this by seeking sponsorship through family, friends, corporate areas and local people.
This year we are hoping to raise enough money to pay for my therapy needs, computer software and health cover for my medical expenses, but the big thing that I would like to raise funds for is an Electric Sit to Stand Power Chair! It looks so cool, of course I can sit in it but the best part is I can stand in it as well, even when it’s moving! It would be great to be able to stand up whenever I felt like it. Having this chair would give me the chance to go where I wanted, by myself, for the first time in my life.
My last operation on my legs was last April. I have had 5 so far all on my legs. It is very painful and requires lots of therapy hours to recover. Therapy takes up a lot of my time, but it helps me to use my body properly. I go to two schools in Brisbane: a main stream and a special school.
Some of the things I like to do are to listen to musical DVD’s of Helmet Lotti, Tattoos, the Wiggles and Andre Rieu. I love to play musical instruments and use my computer. My Dad and I race slot cars together. It’s great fun as I can do it by myself. I love to go shopping with Mum, visiting family and friends and watching Laurynn play netball. I enjoy riding my bike and going out anywhere, especially where there are lots of people.
My main way of getting around is in my manual wheelchair. I have a hart walker and a forearm walker that I use. They are great to use as it gets me out of my chair for a while. Things may take me longer to learn than other people, but I still try and do as many things as I can, sometimes I have to do them a little differently. My family and friends are very proud of me and know that I try very hard in everything that I do.
I would like to thank everyone for their support and their donations, every bit helps no matter how large or how small, it all adds up to being a lot in the end. I’d also like to thank my Gran Rae for all her walking that she does in collecting my donations.
All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and you will not receive any additional credit card charges. The Developing Foundation commits 90% of our target directly to Lochlain’s expenses. The balance is used by the charity to cover administration and credit expenses.
Any support you are able to offer is very much appreciated. If you are unable to make a donation there are other ways to help, for example:
• Send Lochlain’s web page to your family and friends
• Join Lochlain’s team at the Riverwalk
