Description

Daniel has been diagnosed with Autism. His developmental delays began with an illness his mum had while pregnant, then surgery he needed at 2 weeks of age, followed by infections & allergies. The underlying biochemistry causing the disordered brain development is thought to be from gastro-intestinal and immune system problems, leading to inflammation and limited blood flow in certain parts of his brain.

All theories aside, and after much therapy over the years – all of which has been helpful – Daniel, now at 12 years of age, is still in need of significant help to get through each day. His delays in self-care skills, his behavioural outbursts, his personal safety, and educational needs – require medical treatment, educational support, therapy and equipment – not to mention lots of emotional input from his family.

We are so thankful for the support – both financially and emotionally – we have received over the last 12 months.

If you would like to contact Daniel’s Mum or Dad you can email at lorelle@lorelle-ebens.com or phone 0412 797 383.

All funds raised are managed by The Developing Foundation Inc. 90% of the funds are committed to meet Daniel’s special needs and the balance covers administration expenses. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible and there will not be any additional credit card charges.

Daniel’s Update

The last 12 months have been very challenging for Daniel (and his family). About 18 months ago he had some unfortunate exposure to some toxins. His body already struggles with detoxification, and there have been increasing bouts of aggressive behaviour – caused by intense gut and head pain. With the delays in maturity, yet the strength of a 12 year old boy – he can do some damage to himself, others and property during these zones – which can occur numerous times per day.

Under the supervision of a specialist Paediatrician and a Psychologist, we have been attempting to rectify these behavioural problems – but there is still a way to go before we are out of the “pressure cooker”!

Despite the increasing difficulty with behaviour, when he is not in these “zones”, Daniel is a happy boy, has developed a little more speech and social skills. He enjoys going for walks with his brother to a swing in the bush near our home. He has recently learnt to use a spoon to feed himself. He has continued to improve in his use of the “mouse” with the computer. Twice, he has been to Melbourne for a 2-week Intensive of Tomatis Listening Therapy, with significant improvements in his receptive understanding, thinking skills and interaction with us.

As we continue his therapies, education, and medical treatments – we pray that the next 12 months will bring more improvements and some solutions to his current difficulties.

Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement.

Many thanks

Adrian, Lorelle, Michael and Daniel
