Neuro Developmental Home Therapy Program
Neuro-Developmental Therapy programs are usually undertaken by parents in their own homes. A home therapy program consists of a set of exercises undertaken regularly throughout the day. A set may take up to half an hour to complete. The number of sets undertaken is built up until the optimum number of sets is reached.
A guidebook is available to show parents how to start a home therapy program. However, the basic requirements are:
-
Setting up a workroom with appropriate equipment. Equipment may be loaned from The Developing Foundation Inc. or you may be required to have something purpose built. In that case, specifications for equipment are supplied.
-
Training family members and/or volunteers. You will be shown through all of the exercises at the time of assessment and provided with a written program. Some exercises may take up to 3 people for a child and 5 people for an adult so you may need to enlist the help of volunteers. Volunteers are a great resource and often become very committed to the work and to the family. The Developing Foundation Inc. will provide you with a Volunteer Management Recruitment and Guide.
-
Establish and post a daily program schedule in your work room. It is important that your program is run correctly. A schedule will help ensure that volunteers understand and achieve the tasks required. Once you feel comfortable that your volunteers are working independently, this will give you time to undertake other duties in the home.
